The communities of Tamaqua and Port Carbon, located 14 miles apart, are a little closer this holiday season.

After hearing how Port Carbon's Christmas decorations were destroyed by flooding, the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce came to the rescue. The chamber had purchased new decorations to complement a $2.3 million streetscape renovation project, in keeping with the new Victorian lightposts on Broad Street, making the donation possible. When Chamber Executive Director Linda Yulanavage saw a news report about the destroyed decorations, she took the matter to the chamber board, noting "it was the right thing to do."
