A look back: Jan. 23, 1976

Harold M. Hamm, Lehighton R. 3, last night was elected president of the Carbon County Conservation District during a reorganizational session held in the commissioners’ office in the courthouse in Jim Thorpe.

Homer Edwards, executive director, served as temporary chairman for the election process.

Other officers named are Paul Balliet, Lehighton, vice chairman, and Melvin Fairchild, Jim Thorpe, secretary-treasurer.

Hamm, who also serves as chairman of the county’s Planning Commission, succeeds John Wargo, Bear Creek Lakes, Jim Thorpe, who headed the committee for the past four years but was replaced on the board when the commissioners named James Bowser, Lehighton R. 5, to take his place.
