A look back: Jan. 22, 1977

A Catholic school reorganization will become effective next September for the parishioners of Sacred Heart in Palmerton and Assumption B.V.M. in Slatington and St. Nicholas Church in Berlinsville.

Allentown Diocese Superintendent of Education Dr. James J. Cusimano and the pastors of the three parishes - Father Leo S. Stajkowski (Palmerton), Father James F. Stilwell (Slatington) and Father Robert J. Reed (Berlinsville) - announced the plan to parents, saying classes for kindergarten through fourth grade will be located in the Palmerton building while fifth through eighth grades will be taught in the Slatington building.

A name has yet to be chosen for the new school.
