Three people sustained minor injuries in a crash involving a car and tractor-trailer rig along the northeast extension of the turnpike on Tuesday in which a Carbon County driver was cited for causing the crash.
State police at the Pocono barracks said the crash occurred at 10:13 p.m. in the southbound lanes in Washington Township, Lehigh County.Troopers said Dennis A. Ringler, 39, of Palmerton, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire when he parked along the west berm.Troopers said Ringler began driving in reverse along the berm and then re-entered the southbound lane. At this point his vehicle was struck in the rear passenger side bumper by the passenger-side front bumper of a 2014 Freightliner tractor operated by Robert L. Ferrell, 35, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. After impact the Sunfire spun clockwise and struck the guardrail with its rear bumper and came to rest facing east.After impact, the tractor with trailer struck a bridge overpass for Mountain Road, with the passenger side cab and trailer, continued south on the berm and struck the guardrail with its passenger side and came to rest facing south.Ringler, Ferrell and his passenger, Joshua B. Warner, 23, of Toledo, Ohio, were all taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.Troopers said Ringler was cited for limitations on backing.
