Two injured in Walker crash

Two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 5:55 p.m. on Friday along Catawissa Road, near Robinsons Road, in Walker Township, near Tamaqua.

State police at Frackville said Zachery Espinosa Bivens, 19, of Lansdale, Montgomery County, was driving a 2003 Cadillac CTS southbound and negotiating a curve when the rear end of the vehicle began to spin counterclockwise.Bivens attempted to counter-steer, but he was unable to regain control. The car went onto the west berm and struck a tree head-on. Bivens and his passenger, Michael Bets, 21, of Tamaqua, sustained moderate injuries, troopers said, and were taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale by Tamaqua ambulance.Bivens and his passenger were not wearing seat belts, troopers said. Damages were termed heavy to the front end of the car, which was towed. Bivens was cited for the crash. Volunteers from the Walker Township Fire Company and South Ward Fire Company of Tamaqua assisted troopers.
