Carbon County officials are working to make nearly two million court papers available to attorneys through an online database.
On Thursday, the county commissioners approved a proposal from Extract Systems LLC of Madison, Wis., for redaction services. The reason for the redaction services is because some of the docket files that will be online from the Prothonotary and Register of Wills offices contain sensitive information such as minors' names and addresses, and Social Security numbers. The online database will be made available to attorneys for an annual fee and will be able to be found on the Carbon County Court website. In addition to helping attorneys, the online database will also help the courts by serving as a backup in case of a fire or any other disaster that destroys the files or closes the courthouse indefinitely. The cost for the redaction services will total $47,890.90 plus any gap image filed between the date of the proposal and the implementation of the ID shield for day-forward processing.A total of 1,790,825 pages must have items redacted before the hoped for project completion date of May 1.In other matters, thecommissioners also accepted the sole proposal from Lori Knoxof Jim Thorpe, for the operation of the boat rental concession stand at Mauch Chunk LakePark. The terms of the three-year lease include $4,628 annual rental lease; and $80 a month for five months a year for electricity. They also acted on the following personnel moves.• Employment separation: Angela M. Long of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective April 11.• Hire: Sarah M. Nonnemacher of Lehighton, county caseworker I in the Children and Youth Services, effective March 31.
