Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, acted on or discussed the following items:

• Ratified an agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for the 2020 Emergency Shelter Grant in the amount of $55,000. The grant will be shared between Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services, which will receive $35,000; and Family Promise of Carbon County, which will get $20,000. Each entity is providing their equal match dollars. The funds will be used for Rapid Re-housing, Homeless Prevention and Emergency Shelter Assistance for the period between July 24, 2020, to Jan. 24, 2022.

• Approved a change order for a contract with Mazzella Enterprises of Jim Thorpe for a home rehabilitation contract. The change order decreases the project total by $600.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner pointed out change orders typically increase the costs but not decrease it.

“That’s a rare thing,” he said.

• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that the second round of COVID-19 relief block grant applications have been sent to the review committees, and decisions are expected to be sent back to commissioners sometime next week.

• Lukasevich also announced that at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, he will host a Right-to-Know Sunshine Act panel discussion via Zoom and livestreamed on Facebook. There will be four panelists made up of Pennsylvania News Media, State Office of Open Records and the Times News representatives.
