Pa. adds more than 5,000 new virus cases today
The Pennsylvania Department of Health Thursday confirmed 5,488 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 248,856. This is the highest daily increase of cases.
There were 49 new deaths reported for a total of 9,194 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
There are 2,080 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 438 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
In nursing and personal care homes, there have been 28,576 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,972 cases among employees, for a total of 34,548 at 1,132 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,999 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
Approximately 13,202 of the state’s total cases are among health care workers.
• Carbon County is reporting 811 cases, an increase of 38 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 32.
• Lehigh County is reporting 8,167 cases, an increase of 202 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 372.
• Luzerne County reported an increase of 192 cases, bringing the total to 6,642. Six additional deaths have been reported for a total of 222.
• Monroe County has 46 new cases, bringing the total to 2,413. Deaths remain at 135.
• Northampton County has 6,457 cases, an increase of 133 cases. Three additional deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 for a total of 322.
• Schuylkill County has 2,697 cases, an increase of 54 cases. Two additional deaths have been reported for a total of 129.
