Tamaqua Elementary, West Penn will have upcoming virtual days

Tamaqua and West Penn Elementary schools will conduct virtual days on Nov. 13 and 16.

According to principal Laura Shook, students will not attend school those days. Teachers will post lessons for students to work on remotely.

The students will have “specific login and work submission responsibilities at each level” Shook said in a Nov. 11 letter addressed to parents and guardians.

“The purpose for these types of days is to evaluate certain aspects of our curriculum,” Shook’s letter said. “We will determine our students’ ability to learn independently. Families will be able to analyze their own home internet capabilities in the event we need to move to a virtual platform for a short period of time. As a school, we will be able to assess our infrastructure ability to handle a large request for connection outside of our buildings. We are attempting to be prepared and proactive in the best educational interest of our students.”

Shook advised parents and guardians to communicate with their student’s teachers regarding use of a district issues Chromebook.

“We intend to utilize our Google Classroom online platform for instruction and to submit assignments. Teachers will provide an office hour during the day for students to contact them with any questions or support.”
