Local roundup: Results from Oct. 16

Pleasant Valley volleyball coach John Gesiskie earned his 500th career victory with the school on Friday.

The Bears also earned a win in field hockey action.

VOLLEYBALL

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley swept East Stroudsburg South 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 to give their coach the landmark victory.

Andrea Crilley had nine assists, seven digs, six aces, and five kills in the Bears’ (3-1) Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win. Jackie James added nine kills, six digs and three assists, while Sophia Tauers dished out 14 assists, and Kristin Farris collected 12 digs and Hannah Akob put up three blocks to go along with four kills.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-Minersville

Lehighton topped Minersville 2-1 in overtime.

Carter Strauss had the game-winner off of an assist from Mason Marchessault, who also opened the scoring for the Tribe (5-10-1) in the first half. Kaleb May made seven saves.

Jake Burgess scored on an assist from Landon Boyle for the Battlin’ Miners (12-6).

FIELD HOCKEY

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley edged East Stroudsburg South 2-1 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action. Matti Hyland scored both goals for the Bears, while Arianna Mulligan was credited with an assist.

Nora Kirkwood scored for the Cavaliers.

Hazleton-Lehighton

Hazleton cruised to a 6-1 victory over Lehighton.

Mia Dremock scored twice for Hazleton. Gabby Cavenas, Haylee Petroski, Jenna Weheran and Brynn Newton also found the back of the cage.

Madison Brown scored for the Tribe.

GIRLS SOCCER

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Ava Hooten scored twice to lead Pocono Mountain East to a 2-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Carly Pyatt and Madison Kice had assists for the unbeaten Cardinals (7-0, 7-0 EPC), who also got three saves from Isabella Horvath.

Teah Cardoza scored for the Bears (2-1, 2-1 EPC), while Samantha Merklin made three saves.
