East Penn begins budget talks
Budget talks began in East Penn Township, and concerns regarding lost revenue due to COVID-19 were discussed. Parks and Recreation and the Community Center both rely on rental fees, and no rentals were issued as a result of COVID-19. The first approved activity, football practice, will take place at the playground in October with all appropriate signed waivers, insurance and COVID-19 guidelines followed. Additional budget meetings will be held on Oct. 21 and 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Residents requested line painting on several of the roads improved or patched by the road committee. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation does not cover the costs of line painting, and the machine is very expensive.
Supervisors’ Chairman William G. Schwab will reach out to neighboring boroughs to see if a machine can be borrowed.
On Nov. 16, there will be a hearing concerning civil contempt regarding a property on Berger Creek Road.
Schwab said, “we’ve done all we can do; they are just ignoring us.”
Multiple attempts have been made to bring the property to code.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Board approved a request by the Carbon County Domestic Violence Advocate Service Center to allow “Chalk Walk Wednesdays.”
Each Wednesday, messages about preventing and reporting domestic violence will be shared via the few sidewalks in East Penn Township and yard signs will be distributed to willing volunteers.
Trunk or treat will take place at the Community Center from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 28. This is the same night as Lehighton Borough.
