Tamaqua board hires teachers

During the Tamaqua Area School District board meeting Tuesday, the board hired teachers:

Kelly Sajone of Shenandoah, high school language arts teacher, at masters, step 9 level, $53,339.Mary Frank, high school family and consumer science teacher at bachelor's, step 1, $39,500.The board also hired Lynn Staconis of Shenandoah, as a part-time certified occupational therapist assistant, at $25 per hour for up to 29 hours per week, a one-year contract.The board appointed Klacik and Associates, PC, of Shamokin, as the district's auditor for a three-year contract to cover audits for the years 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 fiscal years. The cost for the district audit will be $16,500 per year, and the tax collector audit will be $3,500 per year.The board eliminated the positions of two part-time secretaries, who worked at the high school entrance area, effective Aug. 24.District Superintendent Carol Makuta said one of those employees has been reassigned as a teaching paraprofessional.She said visitors to the building will be viewed using a camera system, which will be connected to the high school's main office, before they are admitted to the building.
