Carbon County court - Drug cases
Five defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Thursday.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas from the following:Daniel Joseph O'Donnell, 43, of Weissport, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on June 17 when Franklin Township police who served a search warrant at his then residence at 69 Main Road. A pipe used for smoking marijuana, a scale and other paraphernalia were found in the home.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 1 to 12 months in the county prison and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Oct. 9.Raymond Alexander Witkowski Jr., 34, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance.He was arrested on Feb. 2 by Palmerton police in the area of a convenience store along Delaware Avenue. Police were dispatched to the area for a report of a person causing a disturbance. On scene officers found Witkowski apparently under the influence of a controlled substance. Police found a cigarette pack on him that had baggies inside that tested positive for illegal substances.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, and zero tolerance was imposed on D&A use.Robert Peter Clarkson, 27, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Dec. 21, 2014, along Hemlock Street in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop. In a plea bargain, a driving under the influence charge was dropped.On the paraphernalia charge Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and on the possession count Clarkson must pay a fine of $500.Derick Orlando Rodriguez-Pegan, 27, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested following a vehicle stop on Jan. 18 along Route 209 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. He was a passenger in the vehicle and was found to have marijuana and baggies containing the substance.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a D&A evaluation and pay a fine of $500.Timothy Lee Eckhart, 28, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on July 8 by state police at Lehighton in the area of Hazard Road and Ridge Street in Bowmanstown. Sheriff deputies took him into custody at that location on a warrant. During a pat-down the deputies found drug items and summoned state police.On the paraphernalia charge Nanovic placed him on probation for six months, consecutive to a six-month term he is currently serving on another charge. On the marijuana charge he was fined $100.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
