Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Accepted the resignation of borough staff employee Kimberly Leskowich, effective Sept. 11. As a result, council agreed to increase the hours of existing borough clerk Crystal Benninger through Job Connections to fill the office staff vacancy.
• Approved the first reading of an ordinance prohibiting parking in four different areas as follows: No parking from Fifth Street west on Delaware Avenue for 55 feet (two spots in front of the Chinese restaurant); no parking on the east side of Walnut Street from Mauch Chunk Road to Edgemont Avenue; no parking on the east side of Linden Street from Princeton Avenue to Edgemont Avenue; and no parking on the north side of Princeton Avenue from Edgemont Avenue south and west for 410 feet.
• Agreed to mill and repave Mauch Chunk Road after the borough was not happy with the prior work. However, council noted that the paving company, Barker & Barker, cannot guarantee it can be any better due to existing conditions and overhead power line obstacles.
• Adopted an ordinance for a handicapped spot on the north side of the 800 block of Princeton Avenue.
• Announced that the Census ends on Sept. 30, and strongly encouraged residents who have not yet responded to do so as their response can help assist the borough in its funding efforts.
