Washington Twp. Supervisors approve large land development
After giving approval to West Grant Street Partners, on Aug. 1 Washington Township supervisors took up a much larger land development plan, At Home at Parkland Campus.
It is off Washington Street near the Copeechan Gun Club and is planned as a long-term care facility. There are two buildings on the site and it is planned to have 11. There will be 144 beds including a pediatric unit. All buildings are to be single-story.The plan has been reviewed by the planning commission which recommended conditional approval, but there are a lot of conditions attached.Supervisor Josh Friebolin said the number of conditions concerns him. The engineer has 22 comments and there are more from outside agencies. If everything can be worked out, it will be a welcome business in the township. It was tabled and will be on October's agenda. In other business: A pension policy amendment will be advertised. The only bid for work on the Old Mill Road bridge was identical to the one opened last month from Slatington Fabricators. It was rejected and will be readvertised. The Articles of Incorporation for the community center will be advertised in conjunction with Slatington. There will be a public hearing at 7:15 prior to the October meeting. In public comment Ed Ziegler asked why the $22,000 in the rec fund was not used to do repairs at Eagle's Nest. Friebolin said it looks like it will cost more. The township has been looking for grants. The township was asked why Dwayne Henritzy's request for new no-burning signs was being honored even though he does not live in Washington. Friebolin said he was the Washington fire marshal. No burning bans are set up at the firemen's discretion. The earlier signs had to be put up and taken down with each ban. The new ones will be able to be up all the time saying only that bans exist because there can be a ban even when there is just danger of a fire such as excessive dryness. It was announced a triaxle dump truck on Smith Hill road tipped over upon reaching Old Mill Road and damaged the blacktop.
