A Tamaqua man is facing burglary and theft charges.
On Aug. 24 at 7:47 p.m. officers were dispatched to 429 Rolling Mill Ave., for a report of an attempted burglary and theft.
A witness told officers she saw a silver Subaru parked on the street, saw it leave, then returned 20 minutes later. It parked across from 429 Rolling Mill Ave. A few minutes later the witness observed a man on the front porch of the residence removing cushions off of chairs on the porch.
The witness confronted the man, later identified as Frank Joseph Ditchey, 56, of the 300 block of Schuylkill Avenue.
He yelled at her and then left in his vehicle. The homeowner returned and noticed the cushions have been moved and a shed on the north side of the house was open. Outside the shed was a cooler filled with items from in the shed.
The witness provided police with video footage and still pictures. The officers recognized the vehicle and knew the owner was Ditchey.
Police went to Ditchey’s home and spoke to him about the incident. The witness then came to the scene and identified Ditchey as the man she saw at the Rolling Mill Avenue residence. Charges were filed.
