Preliminary hearings in Tamaqua

A Tamaqua man had two preliminary hearings scheduled last week in the court of District Judge Stephen Bayer in Tamaqua. Both cases were related to driving under the influence of alcohol charges.

Thomas R. Zemanik, 51, of 230 Market St., Tamaqua, had been charged with DUI by Rush Township Patrolman Corey Herring on July 22, after he was found passed out inside a vehicle on Taggertsville Road. The officer withdrew the charges before the scheduled hearing.Zemanik waived charges of DUI (two counts), careless driving and accidents involving damage to unattended property in relation to a May 23 incident in Tamaqua. Patrolman Jennifer Dempsey filed the charges, which will now be heard in Schuylkill County Court.He was released on his own recognizance.Shante Richards, 24, of 7 Blews Lane, Tamaqua, waived charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment to court, while a charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn by arresting officer Coaldale Patrolman Joseph Krebs. The charges were filed after a Jan. 24 incident at St. Luke's Hospital Miner's Campus in Coaldale.She was released on $25,000 percentage bail.George Kraynak Jr., 23, of 209 Beaver Brook Road, Hazleton, waived a hearing on charges of retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft and receiving stolen property. The charges stem from an April 15 incident and were filed by Rush Township Patrolman Adam Sinton.Bail was set at $5,000 percentage, which Kraynak was unable to post. He will await his trial in the Schuylkill County Prison.Trent J. Jacoby, 35, of 227 Arnot St., St. Clair, waived to court charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft, which were filed by Rush Township Sgt. Duane Frederick. The charges are from a June 25 incident.Bail was set at $5,000 percentage, which Jacoby was unable to post. He will await his trial in the Schuylkill County Prison.Angie J. Kasper, 33, of 2030 Wisconisco St., Tower City, waived her hearing on charges filed by Sgt. Frederick. The charges include possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft. They were filed after a June 25 incident in Rush Township.She was released on $5,000 percentage bail.
