Palmerton plans to trade in its current inventory of handguns used by its police department and replace them with upgraded weapons.
On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Thursday agreed to advertise for adopting a resolution regarding the sale of handguns. Councilman Jason Behler was absent.Mayor Chris Olivia thanked council for its decision, and said it was a good move so the police department will be uniform in terms of their equipment.The resolution allows for the trade-in of personal property when new or used personal property is being acquired by the borough.The police department plans to replace the existing supply of weapons, which have been in service for more than 15 years.A quote of $2,486 has been offered from Atlantic Tactical for the trade-in of 11 handguns toward the purchase of new weapons.The .40-caliber Beretta Model 6D weapons would be traded in toward the purchase of new weapons from Atlantic Tactical.After the meeting, borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the department would receive about 15 new handguns.
