Ross Twp. sets dates for September events
At their monthly meeting Monday, Ross Township supervisors set dates for September events.
The fall permit-free yard sale day is Sept. 12. The yard sales occur on residents’ properties.
“Anything that doesn’t sell can be brought to our cleanup days later in the month,” Supervisor James Zahoroiko said.
Because the first Monday of September is Labor Day, the supervisors’ meetings will occur a week later.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Fall cleanup days will be Sept. 25 and 26, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Road Foreman Ethan Brewer said.
Township residents can bring garbage, recycling and appliances to the township building for disposal in the rented dumpsters. Fees will apply for appliances and tires.
The yard sale and cleanup days usually also occur in the spring, but due to COVID-19 mitigation, they were postponed indefinitely.
In other business
• Residents of High Point Road expressed their continuing frustration with a short-term rental property next door. They asked that the zoning officer attend the September supervisors’ meeting.
At last month’s supervisors’ meeting, the township passed a short-term rental ordinance, which only allows such businesses in village commercial and general commercial zones. This property is not in either zone.
The property is advertised on Vrbo.com, a vacation rental property website, as having five bedrooms and being able to sleep up to 18 guests. Residents said there are eight or more cars parked there every weekend, fireworks occur late Saturday nights and the road is a mess from them. This party house is ruining the neighborhood, they said.
Township Solicitor Tim McManus said the property and others like it in the township have been issued violation documents and have 30 days to comply or be fined.
“I know you all are frustrated. I have dealt with this at other townships. This is a long process. It’s not an easy thing to stop,” he said.
• Supervisors voted to spend about $132 per bench that needs to be replaced along the walking trail. There are six to replace. They are broken beyond repair.
• Supervisors said repairs to the Flyte Road Schoolhouse roof will occur soon. The municipal annex building also needs some repairs, which are in the scheduling process. An unused garage on Kunkletown Road that the township owns will be taken down and its components will be recycled.
