Motorola contract extended

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday agreed to extend the Emergency Management Agency's contract with Motorola Solutions to Oct. 31.

The $16 million contract, signed in December 2012, is to upgrade the agency's equipment. The project, mandated by the Federal Communications Commission, is being paid for by a 2012 $21 million bond issue.The upgrade, which narrowbands emergency radio frequencies, was initially expected to be finished by December 2013, but the county received a waiver to extend the deadline.The new deadline was to have been July 10.In other matters, commissioners approved the Children and Youth Services agency to enter into a purchase of service agreement with the Children's Resource Center, Harrisburg from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.The agreement is for child interview specialist court testimony at a per unit rate of $38, extended forensic evaluation with children at a per unit rate of $125, and child consult at a per unit rate of $450.Commissioners also approved one-year agreements with:• All Shred, Moscow, Lackawanna County, for shredding bins at a per unit rate of $60 and a fuel charge at a per unit rate of $15.• Sandra Palokas of Port Carbon, for court preparation at a per unit rate of $25.• Lewis, Williams and Caravan of Schuylkill Haven, for legal services at a per unit rate of $3,675.• Karen E. Rismiller of Pottsville, for legal services at a per unit rate of $2,506.65, and state Department of Human Services hearings at a per unit rate of $100.• James Conville of Schuylkill Haven, for legal services at a per unit rate of $3,675, and extraordinary expenses at a per unit rate of $75.Also, commissioners approved a contract addendum for the Drug & Alcohol program with White Deer Run, increasing its contract cap from $150,000 to $165,000.And for the Juvenile Probation Office, commissioners reauthorized a purchase of service agreement with the Lancaster County Intervention Center. The agreement will run from July 1 to June 30, 2016 at a cost of $285.11 per day (an increase of $4.79 per day over last year) for youths housed in their detention facility, and $173.93 per day (an increase of $2.99 per day from last year) for youths placed in their shelter care.
