Rush Twp. gas station to sell beer

A locale that focuses on the sale of beer to go is headed to Rush Township.

That's after the township's board of supervisors on Thursday unanimously agreed to approve a resolution granting approval of an intermunicipal transfer of a liquor license from ARP Beverages LLC.The transfer of the liquor license is from 217-219 N. Second St., Girardville, to 704 Claremont Ave., Tamaqua, the site of One Stop Fuel, an existing gas station.It will offer the sale of singles, six- and 12-packs, according to Francis X. O'Brian, attorney for Ketan Patel, who will be the owner.O'Brian said the establishment will also sell food - primarily sandwiches - with the capacity to seat up to 30 people.However, he stressed its primary function will be takeout beer."It's not going to be a sit around and drink place," O'Brian said. "One beer and you're out."In other business, supervisors:• Hired Frederick Lahovski as a part-time police officer at a rate of $17 per hour, retroactive to Oct. 6.• Accepted the Minimum Municipal Obligation for the township's Non-Uniform Pension of $43,687, and the Police Pension of $32,486.• Approved a resolution for NESJMA to submit a Construction Funding Application to the Commonwealth of Finance Authority under the PA Small Water & Sewer Program for grant funds to be used toward the investigation and rehabilitation of the township's sanitary sewer system.• Approved a resolution for a Small Water and Sewer Program Grant, designating the chairman of the board to execute all documents relating to the grant.• Announced that trick-or-treat will be held in the township from 6-9 p.m. Monday.
