Carbon County court extends judicial emergency through July 27

The Carbon County Court of Common Pleas has extended its judicial emergency for the 56th judicial district through July 27.

The extension, signed by President Judge Roger Nanovic, goes into effect at midnight on July 4.

Under the fifth amended administrative order, the court and magisterial district courts will be open to conduct business unless otherwise specified as they have been under the fourth amended order, which expires at 11:59 p.m. on July 3.

Jury trials remain suspended with an anticipated date to resume on a limited basis of Aug. 3. The call of the trial list will be held at 9 a.m. on July 28 or other dates and times set by the court administration.

Criminal pretrials will be rescheduled for July 9 and 23 and staggered.

In-person proceedings such as criminal pleas, sentences and hearings to consider ARD applications will be held in Courtroom 1 at staggered times. If a defendant is incarcerated, those proceedings will be allowed to be conducted through electronic sessions.

Transportation of incarcerated defendants from state correctional institutions and out-of-county prisons to the Carbon County Correctional Facility may not be able to be accommodated.

Masks are required to be worn at all proceedings and hearings before the magisterial judges and Court of Common Pleas judges unless the judge approves a request not to wear one because of a medical condition; and social distancing will be enforced.

Nonessential visitors will not be permitted at proceedings.

The order will be posted at entry doors of the courthouse and district courts, as well as available online at www.carboncourts.com.
