Resurfacing work was scheduled to begin today on Route 145 (Riverview Drive) in Walnutport borough and Lehigh Township in Northampton County.
The pavement improvement project is financed with state funds from Pennsylvania's transportation plan, Act 89. The project includes tree trimming, road base repairs, road milling and paving, shoulder and guiderail upgrades and new pavement markings on Route 145 between Route 248 (Lehigh Drive) and the Route 145 Bridge (Treichlers Bridge) over the Lehigh River.Motorists will face lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Crews may work weekends if there is inclement weather during the week.Motorists are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones.Popple Construction Inc. of Laflin is the general contractor on the $2.84 million project. All work is expected to be complete in October.The average daily traffic volume on this section of Route 145 varies between 7,806 vehicles at Route 248 and 13,666 vehicles at the Lehigh River Bridge.Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting
