Two arrested after syringes, drugs found in Tamaqua

A call to the Fegley Mini Mart in Tamaqua on July 12 resulted in the arrests of two people.

Tamaqua police were dispatched to the convenience store at 6:55 p.m. after an employee overheard two people talking about leaving a syringe near one of the gas pumps.The employee was able to provide a detailed description of the couple and their direction of travel. The officer was able to locate a couple matching the description in the first block of West Broad Street.He made contact and identified them as Megan Lynn Matousek, 22, of 634 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, and Joshua Michael DeWire, 26, of 66 Holland St., Hometown.The duo admitted being at Fegley's minutes earlier and to drinking several shots of alcohol and agreed to allow their belongings to be searched.Matousek handed the officer a syringe from her purse.When officers searched the purse, they found seven more syringes, with several being uncapped; two pipes with suspected marijuana residue; 40 wax packets containing a white powder; six pink and white and 28 blue and white checkered wax packets with white powder residue; 28 white wax packets with white powder residue; and five packets with a design and the word Pandamonium in black lettering.DeWire had six syringes in the cargo pockets of his pants and a scale in his blue string backpack.In his wallet, officers found a small, clear green baggie with six clonazepam pills; one whole and four half oval methadone pills; and two empty pink checkered wax packets with white powder residue.Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
