Re-entry program considered

Carbon County's Criminal Justice Advisory Board is looking to see if an offender re-entry program will help offenders transition back into society after incarceration.

On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners voted to approve a grant application with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for $10,000 to develop an offender re-entry plan. The grant is match-free and 100 percent reimbursable.Anthony Harvilla, who was there representing the county sheriff's office and who wrote the grant, said that Carbon County doesn't have a program like this right now."Across the country there are a lot of jurisdictions to combat some of the recurring criminal occurrences," he said."We became aware through CJAB that the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency had a study grant of $10,000 that would assist local communities and counties to try and determine if they have the resources to initiate a program."Harvilla said that the county helped by applying for the grant, which it was notified it would be receiving.CJAB now has 10 months to do a study."The ultimate goal is to develop a plan and add it to the CJAB strategic plan for the future," he said.
