East Penn Fire Co. receives federal tax-exempt status

The East Penn Township Fire Company has officially been deemed a non-profit organization.

John M. Nonnemacher, CPA, of the accounting and consulting firm of Snyder & Clemente of Sugarloaf, assisted the fire company is obtaining the federal tax-exempt status.He said, "The Internal Revenue Service recently notified the East Penn Fire company that it has been granted federal tax exempt status as a publicly supported charity under Section 501 (c )(3) of the federal tax code."On Monday, he presented the letter from the IRS indicating such status to fire company President George Lakatas.Lakatas said, "The goal of our dedicated group of volunteers is to protect life and property within the township. As a volunteer organization, our operations depend on contributions and the support of our fundraisers. Our federal tax exempt certification insures that donors receive a charitable donation deduction for their contributions to the company."Attorney James R. Nanovic of the Nanovic Law Offices assisted the company with the related legal documents.The fire company provides fire protection to the entire township and is also a member of the Suburban Mutual Aid Fire Association.Presently the fire department has 15 active members on its roster.
