A Carbon County woman, with a history of retail theft incidents, was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday.

Andette Louise Haupt, 56, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 6 to 1 day less 24 months in prison. She previously pleaded to retail theft for an incident on Oct. 7at Redner's Warehouse Market in Nesquehoning, where she stole merchandise valued at $18.53.Matika noted that Haupt has eight prior retail theft convictions and is facing criminal actions in at least two other counties.Defense Attorney Matthew J. Mottola of the public defender's office, said his client has a long history of mental health problems and has gone through inpatient and outpatient treatment. He said her doctors said she suffers from impulse control problems.Matika said that he would give Haupt one more chance to prove herself and sentence her to a county prison term. He added, "I realize you have had a tragedy in her family, the loss of a child in a accident." He told Haupt to continue her counseling and stay on her medications.In addition to the prison term, Haupt was ordered to supply a DNA sample, render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, get a mental health evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and stay out of Redner's.She was given credit for 127 days already spent in jail on the charge.
