Defendants plead in DUI cases

Four defendants entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Elizabeth Alexis Kane, 21, of Summit Hill, was arrested on Jan. 10 by state police at Lehighton along East Penn Street in Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.In an unrelated matter she pleaded to one count of tampering with or fabricate physical evidence for an incident on Jan. 5 in Palmerton.Sentencing wad deferred.Randy F. Gombert, 39, of Palmerton, was arrested on Sept. 27, 2014, along Lehigh Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Gombert could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Annalee Simpson, 60, of Albrightsville, was arrested on March 19 by state police at Fern Ridge along Seneca Road in Albrightsville. A test showed 0.27 BAC.Matika placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Evan Tyler Keeney, 26, of Shillington, Berks County, was arrested on March 15 along Route 209 in Mahoning Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.17 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for D&A use and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10 and serve the time straight.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
