A large quantity of drugs were found in a vehicle following a high-speed chase that began in Carbon County early this morning and ended in a crash in Hazleton.

State police at Fern Ridge said at 2:09 a.m. a vehicle that was entered into the NCIC as stolen by New York City police was spotted traveling westbound on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. Cpl. John Chulock and troopers Joseph Urban, Jeffrey Kreidler and Daniel Spath attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off.The chase continued on I-80 with speeds reaching 120 mph at times. The vehicle then exited the interstate at Route 309 and continued southbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then crashed into a home at the corner of Route 309 and West 16th Street in the city when the driver attempted a right turn onto West 16th Street.Both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Following a short chase, the two suspects were apprehended.They were identified as Paul Brooks, 20, the driver, and Juan Dominguez, 20, both of Bronx, New York.Found in the vehicle were 580 packets of heroin packaged for sale and a small amount of marijuana.Brooks and Dominguez were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus, where they were treated and released for injuries sustained in the crash. They were then taken to the Fern Ridge barracks for processing before being arraigned before a district judge. Troopers said the two are facing numerous charges including drug counts and charges related to the vehicle chase.Assisting troopers were police from Hazleton, Butler Township, West Hazleton and state police from the Hazleton barracks, along with fire and emergency personnel from Hazleton.
