A Jefferson County man admitted to drug possession during a traffic stop along Interstate 80 in Carbon County.

Stanley Joseph Pruszko, 56, of Brockway, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count of possession of a controlled substance-crack cocaine.He was arrested on Aug. 13, 2015, in East Side Borough by state police at Fern Ridge. He was originally stopped for speeding. Troopers conducted a consent search of Pruszko's vehicle and found the illegal drugs.Pruszko said he has been a drug user since his teens and using heroin for the past 17 years. Despite his long history of drug use, he was never arrested before, and he told Matika that he was not caught because he was a "functional drug addict." He said since his arrest he entered an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program which lasted 69 days. He also spent 14 days in prison before making bail.Matika sentenced him to time-served (83 days) to 18 months in jail and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render 75 hours of community service and supply a DNA sample.
