A Carbon County man was placed in a special state prison program on Thursday in the county court by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Gary Eugene Storer, 40, of Jim Thorpe, was placed in the state's Intermediate Punishment program for two years. He had pleaded to one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin, and unsworn falsification to law enforcement.Storer was arrested on the drug charge on Sept. 28, 2015, when he sold heroin to a confidential informant working for the Attorney General's office. The sale was made in the parking lot of the Exxon One Stop, located at the intersection of routes 903 and 534 in Kidder Township.The unsworn falsification charge stems from an incident on June 5, 2014, at Buck's Sporting Goods in Franklin Township. Storer attempted to buy a firearm and gave false information on the application form. Township police filed the charges.The state IP program calls for Storer to serve about seven months in prison, then enter an intensive inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program followed by a period of time in a halfway house. Storer admitted to a drug addiction problem. The program is run military style with strict rules.Matika warned Storer if he gets kicked out of the program he would be brought back to Carbon County and be resentenced. Matika also warned he would get no credit for any time spent in the program.Additionally, Storer was ordered to supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000. He is currently an inmate at the state prison at Camp Hill.
