A preliminary hearing for a Lehighton man charged in a double-fatal DUI crash last year has been continued.
Richard Failla, 52, was scheduled to be in court on Wednesday on a long list of charges including homicide by vehicle. His defense attorney requested that the hearing be moved to a future date, which has not yet been set.Failla has been charged in connection with a rollover crash on Forest Street in Franklin Township on Aug.31, 2014. Brian McGovern and Christopher Mattera were killed in the crash. Another passenger was seriously injured.Police said the crash occurred around 2 a.m. Failla reportedly lost control of his Jeep while driving 72 mph in a 35 mph zone. He admitted to police at the scene that he was drinking, but said that one of the passengers in the vehicle had been driving.Police later established that Failla was behind the wheel.
