At their meeting last week, the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors hired Kim Hunsicker as a CDL driver and road crew employee. Additionally, they ended the probation period for Nicholas Schafer, who is a part of the sanitation department, Supervisor Robin Cressley said, "He is working out great."
The Board of Supervisors approved a request from the Franklin Township Fire Department to hold a "boot drive" fundraiser last weekend. It was also announced that the Franklin Township Fire Department will be hosting their annual car show on June 7 at the fire department on Fairyland Road, starting at 8 a.m.In roadwork news, the board of supervisors received two bids to perform specified roadwork. The company of Asphalt Maintenance Solutions was the lowest, responsible bid for a project cost of $62,434.60. This will provide "tar and chip" material to five roads in the Township, with a sixth road possible. Roads affected by the project are Overlook Road, Hemlock Trail, Indian Hill Road, Long Run Road, Malibu Drive and possibly Pohopoco Drive.In a personnel move, for the first time ever, the chief of police is a salary position and under a single contract. The board of supervisors approved a bargaining agreement that will run from Jan. 1, 2015, through Dec. 31, 2017. In this agreement, Chief Thomas Beltz will receive a 2.9 percent increase in both years of the contract.Chairman of Supervisors Rod Green said, "It is the same agreement as the other officers, only it just covers the chief."The only change from the contract that Chief Beltz was previously under is that he is now a salary position, as opposed to hourly," Green said.
