A Schuylkill County woman was sentenced to a state prison term Tuesday morning in Carbon County court on a drug-dealing charge.
Nicole Savage, 30, of Coaldale, was sentenced to serve 15 to 30 months in a state correctional institution on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, heroin. She previously pleaded to the charge.
She was arrested on April 16, 2019, as part of an ongoing drug investigation by the county drug task force including Lehighton police. Police learned that Savage was going to come into possession of illegal substances.
Following a vehicle stop, the police report indicates 10 bricks of drugs were found.
Initially the drug was listed as fentanyl, but a plea bargain listed the drug as heroin. A confidential informant was used in the investigation.
Savage said she had been doing drugs for over 10 years and was dealing to support her own habit. She went through different treatment programs but relapsed.
She was given credit for 367 days spent in prison of the charge. She was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use and pay court costs of about $1,000.
The proceeding was held via video conference with Savage in the county prison due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the courtroom with Serfass were court personnel including a stenographer, clerk of courts office representative, tipstaff, sheriff deputy, a probation officer, an assistant district attorney and the attorney representing the defendant.
