Eldred Parade looks to future

The Eldred Township Halloween Parade was packed with community spirit on Sunday as the parade marched on another year.

Starting at St. Matthew's Church grove, the parade was full of scary costumes, delightful floats and community organizations coming together to celebrate. The community event has dwindled down over the years. The parade will run for one more year with hopes that the community will have more participation."We talked about this being our last year," said Diane Bittenbender. "But we're going to try one more year."The parade saw the biggest downturn when the Eldred School District closed down. Now they are looking to reach out to different school districts and communities."We're going to do everything we can to get the parade built back up a little bit bigger," said Bittenbender.Prizes were given out for the most original costumes, best group, best pair, best float, ugliest and cutest.Jonathan Piekarski won first for most original as "Geo" from the Umi Zoomi Show followed by Mikayla Wilkins as an Army veteran in second place and Abram Pozza as a racecar driver in third.Cub Scout Pack 102 won first place as the best group.
