The October meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health took place at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Earl Boettger, Christine Zizelmann R.N., Shirley Becker and enforcement officer Matthew Myers in attendance.Myers reported on the numerous complaints he received and investigated during September. They included: 23 high grass complaints, all of which were resolved; four properties condemned as unfit for human habitation, with two having all issues resolved; two animal waste complaints, both resolved; 17 trash complaints, with 12 resolved.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.Health license applications for 2016 have been mailed to the appropriate business owners. Anyone who hasn't received one may contact Myers at 570-668-3444.The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Meetings are open to the public.Funeral customsThe Tamaqua Public Library will host a presentation on 19th century funeral and mourning customs on Oct. 22. Guest speaker will be Bob Vybrenner.The presentation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.For more information, or to register, call 570-668-4660.Meet the artistThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host an artist meet and greet, featuring Michael Delmonico, on Nov. 5.Delmonico is a photographer, who began his craft while in college. Traveling throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, his images include portraits, landscapes, concerts and fine art. His most current project features levitation and surreal images, creating a vivid scene of bewilderment and fascination.Hours for the meet and greet are 6:30-8:30 p.m. The art center is located at 125 Pine St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the 23rd Psalm group meets at 2 p.m. at Laurel Commons; monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center is at 2:30 p.m.; teen group meets at 6:30 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., women's growth group meets at 12:30 p.m., Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, sew much more group meets at 1 p.m., breaking the code group meets at 1 p.m. at the Majestic House, GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, men's growth group meets at 7 p.m.Life groupLife group Bible study sessions will be held every Wednesday, from today through Nov. 11 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.
