Nesquehoning is looking at ways of regaining its children's park for the children.
On Wednesday, borough council discussed the current status of Johnson Park, located on West Railroad Street.Councilman Frank Jacobs, who brought up the subject last month as well, said that something needs to be done because the park currently is "a community hangout and not a playground."He noted that the park is intended for younger children but has been overrun with teenagers hanging out at all hours, littering and sometimes damaging the equipment."We have to get the teens out of there," he said, noting that families with younger children are being deterred from using the park because of the current activity.Councilman Mark Stromelo said that they should hang new signage up at the entrances to the park stating the guidelines, as well as the age limits for park use.He also instructed Mayor Samuel Kitchko to tell the police department to patrol that park, as well as the park in New Columbus more often.Jacobs brought up the subject last month after receiving some complaints about the activity inside the park.
