Nesquehoning Borough Council welcomed one new face to its board during its reorganization meeting Monday evening.

David DeMelfi joined council after winning his first term in office this past November.He was sworn in alongside longtime councilmen Frank Jacobs and Don DeMarco, as well as George Sabol III, who won his first full term in office after being appointed to fill the remainder of Robert Marouchoc's term following his passing last February.The four were sworn in by Mayor Samuel Kitchko.Following the swearing in, the board voted 6-0 to reappoint councilman David Hawk as council president. Councilwoman Mary Fox will serve as vice president.Councilman Michael Sniscak Jr. was not present at the meeting and submitted his letter of resignation, effective Jan. 1.In addition, attorney Robert Yurchak was reappointed as borough solicitor at a rate of $100 per hour with an annual retainer fee of $2,500; Carbon Engineering was reappointed as borough engineer; John McArdle was reappointed as emergency management coordinator and fire marshal for the borough; William Brior was reappointed as the sewage enforcement officer; Dennis Creitz was reappointed to the water authority; all noncontractual employees for various departments were reappointed; and Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank and Mauch Chunk Trust were named the borough's depositories.In addition, the borough reappointed Kirk, Summa and Company LLP as its auditor.Sabol questioned the reappointment because of concerns that were raised last month regarding the late completion of the borough's audit for 2014, which didn't provide council with much time to review the recommendations when preparing the 2016 budget.He asked why council was reappointing the company and was told that the borough looked around but decided to give them another shot.He then asked if they were made aware of council's concerns.RoniSue Ahner, borough secretary/treasurer, said that the company was and that the owner of the company recently addressed the concerns.Sabol asked that for future audits, can the company meet with the budget committee after the audit is complete and then go in front of borough council to go through the audit and make its recommendations.Council said they would look into that and see if there is an additional cost for that added service.
