Three defendants in pending criminal cases recently entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:Robert J. Macharsky Jr., 42, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving while under suspension.He was arrested by Nesquehoning police on June 29, 2012, along Route 209. Police attempted to make a vehicle stop and Macharsky fled but was eventually stopped along 209 near the Lansford radio station.Matika deferred sentencing.Lea R. Palladino, 45, of Lansdale, Montgomery County, pleaded to one count each of possession, sale, use of vehicle document and driving without required financial responsibility.She was arrested by Mahoning Township police on June 13 along Route 443. She had a registration plate that did not belong on the vehicle she was driving, had the wrong inspection sticker and did not have any insurance.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to render 50 hours community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.On the no insurance count she was find $300 and costs.David John Swedo, 53, of Beaver Meadows, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested by state police at Hazleton for a theft incident involving Michelle Sist, 60 E. Market St., Tresckow, as the victim. A cellphone was taken.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered him to make restitution to Sist for $599, have no contact with her, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
