Father, son jailed after threats at Gnaden Huetten

A father and son from Carbon County are in jail after they became combative when asked to leave Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton.

Lehighton Police officer Robert DeFuso said that Daniel R. Engler, 71, of Kunkletown, and his son, Kevin Engler, 38, of Kunkletown, went to the hospital Saturday to visit a patient.DeFuso said after they were told to leave by staff at 2:14 p.m., as visiting hours were over at 2 p.m., the pair then became upset, and started smashing cameras.They entered the secured portion of the facility, at which point they were escorted out of the hospital, he said.DeFuso said that as both men were leaving, they threatened to harm staff and "blow up the facility."No one was injured, DeFuso said.Daniel has been charged with trespassing, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.Kevin has been charged with trespassing, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.Both were arraigned before District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly and were unable to post bail.They remain incarcerated at the Carbon County Correctional Facility.Also assisting at the scene were Franklin Township and Mahoning Township police departments.
