Community meal
A free community meal will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday.The menu will be baked pork chops, roasted vegetables, potatoes au gratin, and apple desserts.All are invited to join together in food and fellowship. Last month they were able to donate $153 to the local food pantry.Fun in the Sun eventA Fun in the Sun Vendor and Craft Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Palmerton Memorial Park, 1255 Third St., Palmerton.Enjoy a fun-filled day of shopping. The meetings are held at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group welcomes veterans to join them. They meet the second Monday of each month.Palmerton American LegionPalmerton American Legion Post 269 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group meets the fourth Monday of each month.Call Ed Moyer at 610-504-6680 for information.Tax collector hoursTax Collector Lisa Nemeth will be at the Borough Hall Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. in the month of August for tax collection. Check your tax bill for a listing of her home office hours.Park concertThe Hazleton Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. This concert is sponsored by Harry Brown.There is no rain date for any concert. In the event of inclement weather, the Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel the concert. Bring your own lawn chair.Next week's concert, Aug. 16, will be by the Palmerton Band.Holy Trinity NewsHoly Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship services at 9 a.m. Sunday. A children's service will be held.Following the service at 10 a.m. there will be a Worship & Music Committee meeting. On Monday at 7 p.m. the Finance Committee will meet.Sign-up sheets for baking and selling for the Palmerton Festival will be in the narthex. The baking schedule is in the August newsletter. The church phone number is 610-826-2524.Summer Sports & Arts JamboreeJerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville), will hold a Summer Sports & Arts Jamboree, Aug. 10-14 from 6-8 p.m. for preschool children ages 2-4 (with accompanying parent) and grade school children ages 5-12.Kids can come and play games/sports and/or do artistic things like crafts, dance, and drama in a Christ-centered environment.The preschool group of 2-4 year olds and their parent will sing, dance and play the creation story.The grade school group (5-12 years old) will learn about how life with Jesus is really LIFE! Their half-time rally is full of fun with the resident rock player playing great songs while they learn about how Jesus helps them live life in full effect.The program is free of charge, and there is no deadline for registration, but early registration will avoid delay on Monday.
