Nesquehoning officials discuss the weight limit on Tippets Road bridge

Nesquehoning officials remind contractors and oversized vehicles that there is a weight limit on the Tippets Road bridge entering the east end of the Lake Hauto development.

On Wednesday, the subject of the bridge being used by contractors whose vehicles exceed the 6-ton weight limit came up.One contractor in particular, who was seen using the bridge by borough crews, was told about it, but was uncooperative, saying that he plans to continue using that bridge on Tippets Road."If something happens to that bridge, everybody's screwed," Councilman Don DeMarco said. There are sewer lines that feed the development running under that bridge that could be compromised if it is damaged or collapses.Councilman David DeMelfi, who is a resident in the development, asked what the borough could legally do to stop oversized vehicles from using that entrance.Council said that citations could be issued to violators. In a related matter, the Tippets Road rehabilitation project has been completed.DeMarco said that a lot of silt was removed from the area, which caused the road to be spongy. Tippets Road has had drainage problems for years, and is located next to a pond and marshy area entering the development.DeMarco said that next year, the borough plans to fill in the potholes of Tippets Road and tar and chip the road to make it safer for residents.Other businessCouncil acted on or discussed the following items:• Granted final preliminary/final approval for phase II of the PA Solar Park project in the estates area of Nesquehoning.
