Seven displaced in Tamaqua fire

A fast-moving house fire forced seven to flee to safety Wednesday in Tamaqua.

Emergency responders were dispatched to 210-212 Washington St. at 11:55 p.m. for a working apartment building fire at a four-unit complex.Flames were already visible when firefighters arrived on scene. The blaze was under control within 20 minutes.Flames appeared to be concentrated on upper floors, with 210 Washington sustaining substantial damage.Three of the four units were occupied, including a man and his dog in one unit, a woman and her cat in another, two people in a third unit and a two adults and a child in the fourth unit.All tenants and pets were reported safe.Firefighters used force to gain entry into 212 Washington St., which appeared to be unoccupied.Courthouse records list the owner of one unit as 210 Washington LLC, while Scott Andrews is listed as owner of 212 Washington.Responding were Tamaqua police, fire companies from Tamaqua, Coaldale, Lansford, Summit Hill, Ryan Township EMS, Tamaqua Salvation Army, American Red Cross and Tamaqua Volunteers group.The Tamaqua Salvation Army is providing temporary housing to one of the apartment's tenants and expects to provide aid to others.A state police fire marshal was expected to arrive on scene Thursday to determine the cause.
