Lower Towamensing Township supervisors discussed upcoming road repairs this week.

Some of the repairs will require subbase repairs and asphalt, while others will need chip seal to be applied.The roads that will need subbase repairs with an asphalt overlay include:• Hemlock Street (from Spring Road to Dairy Road) - less than a mile section;• Hemlock Street (from Dairy Road to the township line) - about a half-mile section;• Locust Drive (from 57 Road to the township line) - about a quarter-mile section, and;• Hill Road (from Hickory Lane to the township line) - about a quarter-mile section.Various locations on Walnut Drive between Hahns Dairy Road and Drift Road will need subbase repairs in spots, but will not need the more extensive work of an asphalt overlay stretching across the width of the roadway.The township will meet at 10

a.m.May 2 with any company interested in placing a bid for the work at the township office. Brent Green, vice chairman of the supervisors, said interested parties will also get a chance to go out and look at the roadways needing repairs.According to the township's Proposal and Contract for the work, all bids must be received by 10

a.m.May 9. The committee will open the sealed bids at that time, and they will be presented to the supervisors at their meeting onMay 10. The work needs to be completed by June 30.The supervisors discussed Tuesday night the amount of work that needs to be done to the roads. Chairman Ronald Walbert asked if it would be possible to do the subbase repairs and not the entire asphalt overlay. Green said the township still has $55,000 from the state for roadwork.In 2013, Green said he looked over Hemlock Road and it salvageable, but it has deteriorated since then."The last two winters ruined it," he said."We'll get our engineer out there," Walbert said; "$55,000 doesn't buy you a lot these days."The township is also looking to have a chip seal applied to four streets. These include:• Walnut Drive (from Hahns Dairy Road to the township line) - about a 2-mile section;• Hickory Road (from Walnut Drive to the township line) - about a quarter-mile section;• 57 Road (from Little Gap Road to the township line) - a little more than a mile section, and;• Wintergreen Road (starting a little north of Hahns Dairy Road) - the section will stretch about a quarter mile.Bids for this project also need to be submitted to the township by 10

a.m.May 9. They will be reviewed by the committee at that time and presented to the supervisors at their meeting onMay 10. The work needs to be completed by Aug. 15.
