Knitting Club
The Knitting Club will meet from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the conference room of the Palmerton Area Library. This club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting, crocheting or other fiber crafts, regardless of skill level. New members are always welcome. The club meets the first Monday of each month.Model RailroadThe Carbon Model Railroad Society continues its Open House at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The main "HO" scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool. The club's portable "HO" and "N" displays are also in operation and there is a model railroad yard sale. Admission is free; donations are welcome. Monthly meetings are held every second Thursday of the month.An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet is served the third Sunday each month from 8 a.m. to noon. All are welcome. the cost is $8 per person.Al-Anon Family GroupsAl-Anon Family Groups meet at different locations in the Palmerton Area.From 7-8 p.m. on Mondays, Al-Anon Family Group/Serenity Seekers meet at Salem United Methodist Church, 4145 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. Call 484-477-9697 for more information.Alateen support group for teens of family struggling with alcohol meets at Faith Alive United Methodist Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Adult Al-Anon and AA meetings take place at the same time. Call 484-221-1026 for information.Blood donationThe need for blood usually increases during the winter, owing to illness, accidents, etc., while donations typically decrease. Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct its first 2016 Palmerton community blood drive on Tuesday at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall. As usual, registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., but closing time will be extended to 6:30 p.m., to accommodate commuters. This drive is being sponsored by Janet Snyder.We encourage college students and others home for the holidays to give us one hour of their time, and a pint of their blood, to save up to three lives. Anyone over 17, weighing at least 110 pounds, and in general good health, who has not donated since Nov. 10 is eligible. Previous Miller donors, please bring your Miller cards.
