It is open from noon to 5 p.m. Club members invite community residents and friends to visit them at the group's booth.They will have Christmas cards for community members to sign for the veterans who are in the hospitals around the United States. Christmas cards for the military, with a special emphasis this year on disabled veterans, is a project the Western Pocono Women's Club does in coordination with some of the local area Girl Scout troops.The day of activity for the event will include games; demonstrations; food and drink; a 3-on-3 basketball tournament from noon until 4 p.m.; and performances by Riverside Band, Pleasant Valley Choral, Adam Jacobs and Steel Creek.For general information contact 570-992-9733 or

All Monroe County animal lovers are encouraged to attend.PVEN needsWith colder weather coming, PVEN has asked for donations of men's sweatpants, heavy thermal socks, thermal underwear, winter jackets in all sizes and boy's sweatpants and children's pj's in all sizes.Also needed are new or gently used blankets, comforters, towels, and queen and king sheet sets.Donations of food and clothing may be brought to the PVEN from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays or at other times by appointment.New client registrations will be taken on Monday, Tuesday or Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registrations made after that date are $5 more.Awards go to the top two male and female finishers and the top three male/female finishers in each age group. The first 100 preregistrants will receive an event T-shirt.
