Sometimes it's the smallest of gifts that can put the biggest of smiles on the faces of others.

Kaelyn Boran-Smith, a senior at Tamaqua Area High School, has a passion for making others happy.Her enthusiasm certainly shone through as part of a project through her World Language Club.Boran-Smith, of Tamaqua, discussed the idea with Amanda Hascin, a Spanish teacher and club adviser, to hold a Socks for Seniors drive.Upon being given the green light to proceed with the drive, Boran-Smith asked fellow students and their families to donate new pairs of socks.Various types of socks, such as Christmas-themed, anti-slip and even a few that were somewhat crazy colored, were collected.She planned to distribute the socks to senior citizens at the Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center."It feels great to give back to people that have done so much," Boran-Smith said. "It's just something to put a smile on their faces."She said she was grateful to those who assisted her with the drive."I'd like to thank everybody who brought socks in to help make this what it is," she said.What it is, frankly, is a kind, thoughtful gesture that's certain to brighten the spirits of many a senior citizen.
