Three sentenced in Carbon DUI cases

Three defendants were sentenced on drunken driving counts by Judge Steven R. Serfass this week. All previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

David Scott Zellner, 44, of Tamaqua, was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail followed by five months and 28 days in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 28 days spent on electronic monitoring.He was arrested on Nov. 8, 2014, along Summit Avenue at Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed a 0.27 BAC.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $500, have his license suspended for a year, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 5:30 p.m. June 5.Sara Fink, 32, of Lehighton, was placed on probation for six months for her first DUI offense.She was arrested on Sept. 1, 2013, along Route 443 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed a 0.08 BAC.She was also fined $300 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Dillion Friendy, 21, of Hazleton, was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in the county prison on a charge of driving under suspension-DUI related. Serfass ruled he must serve the full 90 days. He was also placed on probation for a year on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, consecutive to the DUI charge; and fined $200 on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana.He was arrested on Nov. 30, 2014, along Indian Hill Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Troopers found him parked in a driveway with his outside and interior lights on in his vehicle.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, and render 50 hours of community service when he completes his jail term. He will also lose his license for a year.He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. Friday and serve it on consecutive weekends.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
