Defendants plead in drug-related cases
Eight defendants entered guilty pleas in drug-related cases before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II in Carbon County court on Thursday.
Michael Ricky Coulson, 39, of Aquashicola, pleaded to one count of manufacturing a controlled substance-marijuana.He was arrested after state police at Lehighton received information that Coulson was growing marijuana plants near his home. Troopers went to the residence and observed marijuana plants growing in the area. A total of 12 plants were found.Nanovic sentenced him to serve three to 12 months in the county prison and ordered him to get a D&A evaluation and to enter a drug counseling program for 25 weeks as recommended in a report furnished to the court.He was given credit for 105 days already spent in jail on the charge.Michael Gilbert Olk, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-crack cocaine.He was arrested by Mahoning Township police on March 31 along South Fourth Street. Olk sold crack cocaine in a controlled buy set up by police.Olk is currently in the Northampton County prison serving a term on a parole violation charge.Olk told Nanovic he was a crack cocaine user for the past two years.Nanovic sentenced him to serve three to 12 months in the county prison and ordered he get a D&A evaluation.He was given credit for 59 days spent in jail on the charge. Nanovic ruled the sentence run concurrent with the term he is serving in Northampton County.Michael Robert Reichard Jr., 41, of Slatington, pleaded to one count of delivery of a controlled substance-heroin.He was arrested by agents of the state attorney general's office following a sale of heroin to an undercover agent. The sale occurred in the area of 117 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton.Sentencing was deferred.Joshua John Binder, 28, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Dec. 16, 2014, along Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. Troopers made a vehicle stop and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found drug paraphernalia including a pipe to smoke marijuana.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.Mark David Kudela, 44, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana.He was arrested on March 25 by agents of the AG's office. As the result of an investigation a search warrant was executed at 271 Bankway in Lehighton. Marijuana and paraphernalia were found in the home.Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.Michelle Lee Hartman, 44, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on Feb. 2 by Lehighton police in the 100 block of North Second Street.She was placed on probation for a year, ordered to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance was imposed on D&A use.Kelly Sue Neff, 46, of Palmerton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on Sept. 12, 2014, by state police at Lehighton in the area of 70 Anthony Lane in Lower Towamensing Township. She was a passenger in a vehicle at a vehicle stop. The second arrest occurred on Jan. 20 in the same area after police were looking for her to serve an arrest warrant. Paraphernalia was found on her.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year on each count, with the terms running concurrently, and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.Dawn Maureen Snyder, 39, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance-crystal methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on Nov. 25, 2014, when Palmerton police were called to the Family Dollar Store, 545 Delaware Ave., for a retail theft incident.At the store police found Snyder. Police searched her purse and found the meth and other paraphernalia.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance for D&A use.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
