Nesquehoning is holding the line on its spending as officials work toward building a budget for 2027.
On Wednesday, councilwoman Lois Kuba, who chairs the budget committee, said that work on the budget has begun and departments are getting their budgets to her to help with creating next year’s spending plan.
“So far, we’re really holding our own,” she said of this past year’s spending and budget projections.
She pointed out that there are currently eight CDs that will mature in early November so council will have to look at CD rates to roll these accounts into next month.
Kuba said that the proposed 2027 budget will be voted on at the upcoming Nov. 18 council meeting, with final adoption in December.
In other related matters, council voted to adopt the 2026 and 2027 municipal and police MMO pension contributions. Those figures were not announced.
The borough also tabled discussion and action regarding office personnel. The borough currently is without a borough secretary/treasurer after terminating Deborah DelFranco’s employment last month.
